Wiki Evaluation

Wikis can be used for so many things. For example, one use is that it is a way to communicate with people from all over the world. They can be used as websites to share and post information regarding a specific topic so that everyone else can see and read it. They can also be used for educational purposes like in schools and other such environments to enhance collaborative, cooperation, and communication skills. One benefit of using wikis is that other people can edit them; they can add, delete, and modify some things on the page. We can also add links, images, and videos on the page to enhance it. We can also have a discussion about the page and leave a little message to the creator.

However, there have been so many problems encountered with wikis. Because wikis give the reader the privilege to edit the page and add in some more information and thoughts; people abuse it. They end up writing offensive things and incorrect information. Nonetheless, the creator can view the history of the page and see who did that and change it back to what it used to be.

One downside of wikis is that they don’t look too appealing. They are very basic, simple, pages. To improve the look of wikis, we can maybe add some colors and designs to the page or change the theme to make it look more visually appealing. Wikis also don’t have many fonts to choose from. They are very boring to look at and create because it doesn’t give you many options for personalizing and customizing them and making them visually appealing. I think that that is why people don’t make many of them.

Social networks may replace wikis for sharing information in the future because they allow people to create profiles, post pictures, and talk a little bit about them selves. They also allow people to post comments and messages to other people about what they put up on their page. They are also very enjoyable to create and view as they have many colors, themes, designs, and so much more. It is just another way of communicating and sharing information with other people from all around the world which is what wikis do.

Photoshop Project

Evaluation

In our I.T. lessons, we were asked to create an advertisement for a product of our creation using Adobe Photoshop. I chose to do it about a made up shoe store called "Shoemania". I think using Photoshop is better than using other programs because you can do so many things using many unique and helpful tools. Using Photoshop made my project look more professional because we can get many effects that look more interesting than others. Most of the tools in Photoshop are unique and very useful; they make every thing created by it look good even if they are very simple.

Background:-
- Gradient tool – I used this to make the background more visually appealing and attention grabbing. I also chose it to suit the theme of my made up store.
- Opacity – I used this to make it bit transparent because it was too bright and it hurt the eyes. I changed the opacity to make it easier for the eyes.
- Filter : artistic : cutout – I used this tool to make it more funky so that it communicates the theme of the store and its audience which is mostly teenage girls and young adults.

Shoes: -
- Change in opacity – I made this picture of the shoes a bit transparent so that it becomes peaceful to the eyes and less bright.
- Rotate – I used the rotate tool to put it diagonally and in the corner of the page so that it fits better and looks better at the same time.
- Crop – I used this tool to cut out the border that used to be around the shoes because I didn’t like it very much.
- Magnetic lasso – I used the magnetic lasso tool to take out the white background around the shoes because it didn’t look good on my background. I just wanted the shoes to show without a background.
- Filter: Artistic: Plastic Wrap – I used this filter to make the shoes shinier to give them a better effect.

"Shoemania" text: -
- Skew – I used the skew tool to make the shape of the text more interesting.
- Change text style (font) – I also changed the font of the text so that it matches the mood and tone of my "store" which is funky and bold and bright.

Other Texts: -
- Change text style – I chose a different font then the name of the store because the name's font was too bold and big for a long text and I wanted it to be legible and clearer.

Bottom shoes 1, 2, 3
- Magnetic lasso – I used the magnetic lasso to take away the white background around the shoes because it didn’t look good on my background.
- Rotate – I rotated them to make them go into a diagonal line across the bottom of the page.

Circle behind “Shoemania”
- Ellipse tool – I used the ellipse tool to emphasize the "Shoemania" because I wanted the name of my store to stand out. I wanted it to be the first thing people saw when they look at my advertisement.
- Rotate – I rotated it to match the shape of the text and to emphasize the name more.
- Skew – I skewed it to match the shape of the text to accentuate the name more.
- Change in opacity – I changed the opacity to 75% because I didn’t want the green to be very bright. I also wanted the lines from the background to show lightly but not completely.

Image 1:

In this picture, I applied a few filters to it. I applied an artistic filter and used the smudge tool. Then I used the distort filter and chose glass ripple. After that, I used the diffuse tool and made it darker. Lastly, I used the burn tool in the top corners of the picture and the dodge tool towards the middle of it near the sun.

Image 2:

In this picture, I applied the artistic filter and used the colored pencil effect. Then, I used the burn tool to make the sky darker.

Image 3:

All I did in this picture was that I increase the contrast to +100 and decreased the brightness to -100.

Image 4:
All I did here was that I left the brightness at 0 and increase the contrast to +100.

Design 1 - Logo

Original Almana & Partners Logo:

My Logo:

The logo that I made for the company Al Mana & Partners is very simple. I only used two bold colors in it, red and black. I chose to use red for the "&" because red symbolizes strength and I want the people to know that the Al Mana family has a strong bond with their partners. I also wanted my logo to fit into a square so that it can be used at the corner of all their things so that they can be easily recognized. The logo doesn't include many gradients, shadows, and complicated details.

Logos

ABC's logo is a very good example of a successful logo. The logo has been created by Paul Rand in 1962 and it still remains unmodified. It is very simple so that people can recognize it. The font used is not too fancy. The logo doesn't incorporate many colors, only black and white which makes it more visually appealing. This logo has been effective for a very long time because of its simplicity.

McDonald's logo is one of the most recognized logos world wide. The main reason for that is because of its simple yet effective logo. It only uses one primary color. The logo is very simple, it comprises of two golden arches only. It doesn't include intricate details, lines, or gradients. This makes it easier for the people to pick out among many of the logos we see today.
